Satellite Clinics

The Dental Council of India made it imperative for all the teaching dental institutions in India to establish satellite clinics in rural areas, which cater to the dental emergencies of the people residing in these areas. These clinics gives way to the accessibility issues to a great extent and also offer services at a nominal price. Satellite clinics possess the critical capacity to implement a common risk factor approach, which integrates oral health with overall well-being including general and mental health.

St. Joseph Dental College operates three satellite clinics or rural health centers within 12-50 kilometers from the institution.

The satellite clinic Kovvali is located around 12 km in the Kolkata-Chennai national highway bearing the number NH-216, established by St. Joseph Dental College in the year 2015. The satellite centre at  Gudlavalleru was established in the year 2006 at Gudlavalleru village in Krishna district in the route bearing the state highway number SH43 covering Gudivada to Machilipatnam. This serves the needs of nearby mandals in the respective place. It is located 50 km from the college and the referrals are directed to the institution. The third center is located in Lingapalem village,  Elurudistrict which is around 35 km from the institution and was established in 2003.

Staff, PGs and Interns are posted for Patient screening along with all basic and emergency dental procedures are performed. Patients requiring higher dental procedures are referred to the institution for further management.

All three centers are equipped with well-maintained dental chairs. A dental chair in the mobile dental unit is also available for community-based learning. Apart from this, Health education and anti-tobacco counselling are also provided for the benefit of the rural population.
