Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is a specialized branch of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malocclusions, dentofacial deformities, and irregularities in tooth alignment and jaw growth. This discipline plays a crucial role in achieving functional occlusion, facial harmony, and long-term oral health.
The department aims to impart in-depth knowledge and clinical expertise in understanding craniofacial growth and development, biomechanics of tooth movement, and the etiology of malocclusion. Emphasis is placed on the development of critical diagnostic skills using clinical assessment, radiographic evaluation, and cephalometric analysis.
Students are trained in the application of various fixed and removable orthodontic appliances, understanding their indications, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic outcomes. The curriculum also integrates concepts of growth modification and orthognathic surgery, equipping students to manage complex skeletal discrepancies.
A key objective of the department is to foster research and innovation in the field, encouraging students to engage in evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary collaboration. The goal is to ensure comprehensive patient care, combining aesthetics, function, and stability.
In essence, the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics is committed to delivering quality education, promoting advanced clinical skills, and nurturing a spirit of inquiry to contribute meaningfully to the profession and patient well-being.
