MENTORSHIPPROGRAM
The mentorship program was launched at St Joseph Dental College in 2024. Since then, necessary modifications have been made periodically to ensure its effective implementation and adaptability to prevailing circumstances.
OBJECTIVES:
- Provide personalized guidance and a Supportive learning environment tailored to individual mentee needs
- Enhance Academic and Career Development by encouraging Goal Setting and accountability
- Foster Personal Growth and Confidence
- Facilitate Knowledge & Skill Sharing
SELECTION OF MENTORS:
Enthusiastic, professionally qualified and academically experienced faculty who are readily available, easily approachable, trustworthy, willing to spare time and ready to take up problem ownership were selected.
DUTIES OF THE MENTOR:
The mentor should be prepared to communicate, actively listen, keep an open mind to problem-solving, maintain confidentiality, make appropriate referrals, and provide sensible and appropriate solutions without any bias. The mentor should play the role of a teacher, sponsor, advisor, agent, role model, coach, and confidante.
- To collect the necessary details for communication and correspondence (like student contact number, email, house address (Non hosteller), likes and dislikes, blood group, parents’ contact number, etc.)
- The mentor should guide the mentee throughout his/her academic course and, if required, during their further career progress. Currently, the mentorship program has been enveloping all the students enrolled into the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
- The mentors are entrusted with the duty of monitoring the issues about ragging, hostel facilities, mess, library, transportation, teaching aspects, patient management, etc.
- Monitoring the academic performance of the mentee from time to time (attendance, internal assessment performance/status of academic and clinical quota prescribed by the Dental Council of India) and to find out if they have any difficulty in following/understanding the subject.
- Encouraging the students to develop a positive attitude, maintain proper health and participate in outreach programs (camps) and extracurricular activities (sports and cultural events).
- Educating the consequences of ragging and the measures to curb the same at the institutional level.
- To respond to the grievances of the mentee immediately by communicating with the nodal officer or the higher authorities.

OBJECTIVE: To gather information regarding the issues addressed by the students during the mentorship program and to discuss regarding topics for future sessions.
OUTCOME : the coordinator Dr M. Srinivasa Raju has addressed the nodal officers and discussed the problems and issues raised by the students in the mentorship program, during the last two months. The issues have been noted and reported to the higher authorities for further action.
