TEACHERS USE ICT-ENABLED TOOLS FOR EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESSES INCLUDING ONLINE E-RESOURCES.
In recent years, the educational topographyhas endured significant transformationmost of which is driven by technological advancements. At SJDC integrating modern teaching aids, has seamlessly woven technology into its educational framework. Itstands at the forefront of educational innovation. Its commitment to effective teaching and learning is evident through the strategic integration of ICT tools. These tools empower faculty members and engage students, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
PHASES OF UNIFICATION OF TECHNOLOGY WITH EDUCATION
PHASE 1
Lecture Galleries and LCD Projectors:
Each lecture gallery is equipped with LCD projectors and internet-connected computers. Faculty members utilize these tools to enhance their teaching, whether it is explaining dental procedures or discussing theoretical concepts.Animated videos and PowerPoint presentations are frequently employed.
Radiographic Interpretation Skills:
In the Oral Medicine and Radiology department, technology takes centre stage. Students hone their radiographic interpretation skills using digital tools. Real-time demonstrations are projected on screens, allowing students to visualize and learn from actual clinical scenarios.
E-Learning and Adaptation During the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated a swift Transition to Online teaching and learning. using platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. Theory classes, clinical discussions, and interactive sessions continued impeccablyon these platforms.Faculty members received conventional training to conduct effective online lectures. Despite physical distancing, the learning process went on unhindered. Even post-graduate academic engagements like seminars and Journal Clubswere organisedon digital platforms to facilitate knowledge sharing and scholarly discussions.Faculty members leveraged technology to ensure that learning remained uninterrupted.
Learning Management System (LMS) and Beyond
The Learning Management System (LMS) is a repository for essential study materials. Faculty members upload PowerPoint presentations, demonstration videos, and other relevant content and the students access these resources when needed. Additionally, faculty members explore external e-learning platforms such as NPTEL, SWAYAM, NTRMEDNET to enhance their teaching methodologies.
Access to NTRMEDNET Consortium:
SJDC Institute is part of the NTRMEDNET consortium, which promotes collaboration among health science institutions. Access to this consortium ensures that the institute remains updated on educational and research advancements.By leveraging this network, SJDC stays at the forefront of dental education.
PHASE 2
In phase 2 SJDC management has planned to equipclassrooms, seminar halls and labs with interactive panel boards and digitalize the health record system.
Interactive panel Boards
Interactive panel boards aid in videoconferencing and recording live sessions. Given this presently two classrooms, 2 seminar halls and one lab are equipped with interactive panel boards.
Electronic Health Record System
The institute adopted an electronic health record system (DIMS patient automation software). This transition streamlined oral health care delivery, making it more efficient and paperless.Faculty members and students received comprehensive training to use this software effectively. Patient records, treatment plans, and follow-up details aremanaged through DIMS.
In conclusion, SJDCexemplifies how ICT-enabled tools enhance the teaching and learning process. From lecture halls to online platforms, technology has exquisitelyintegrated with traditional pedagogy, creating a holistic educational experience. As the digital panorama evolvesSJDC remains committed to nurturing competent dental professionals through innovative teaching practices.
