Oral Medicine & Radiology

ORAL MEDICINE

Oral Medicine is the branch which serves as the bridge between Dentistry and Medicine, specializing in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting the oral and paraoral structures. Our expertise includes detecting oral manifestations of systemic conditions, ensuring timely medical intervention. We provide comprehensive care for medically compromised patients, integrating advanced research in biological, pathological, and clinical spheres. The department is dedicated to treating temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and facial pain, with a special emphasis on various oral and maxillofacial lesions, improving patient comfort and function. We emphasize on behavioural aspects of oral health, fostering a holistic approach to dental care. We accentuate special care in diagnosing and treating various potentially malignant and malignant lesions of oral and maxillofacial region. With a strong commitment to innovation, education, and research, we prepare future professionals to excel in oral diagnosis and medical management. The department conducts investigative and treatment procedures like exfoliative cytology, FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) and biopsy. The department has a tobacco cessation clinic as a community service program.

ORAL RADIOLOGY

Oral Radiology, a key branch of Oral Medicine, specializes in capturing and interpreting images using various radiant energy modalities for diagnosing and managing oral and maxillofacial diseases. With rapid advancements in digitalization and radiographic technology, this field continues to evolve. The Dental Radiology unit at St. Joseph Dental College is equipped with digital imaging systems, ensuring precision in diagnosis and is expanded and updated to keep abreast with these advanced technologies. The department adheres strictly to radiation protection guidelines for the safety of patients and professionals. Cutting-edge Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows for detailed 3D visualization, enhancing treatment planning and surgical precision. The integration of digital radiographic equipment improves accuracy and efficiency in oral healthcare. By staying at the forefront of modern technology, the department supports both academic learning and clinical excellence. Oral Radiology plays a vital role in early disease detection, aiding in effective patient management. With a strong emphasis on innovation and expertise, this field continues to bridge the gap between dentistry and medical imaging. The department remains committed to advancing research, education, and quality patient care.
