The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St. Joseph Dental College & Hospital was established in 2002. Offers comprehensive education and training in the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases, Maxillofacial -injuries, and defects involving the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. This advanced specialty requires rigorous training and involves regular collaboration with medical disciplines such as Neurosurgery, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Head and Neck Oncology, and Facial Plastic Surgery, thereby integrating dental expertise with broader medical care
Our department is equipped with advanced surgical facilities and provides students with hands-on clinical experience under the guidance of experienced faculty. The curriculum integrates foundational knowledge with modern surgical techniques, preparing students for both academic excellence and clinical proficiency. We also emphasize research and community outreach, fostering a commitment to innovation and patient-centred care.
Department of OMFS deals with the following
- Diagnosis and treating diseases of the teeth and their supporting soft and hard tissues.
- Surgical reconstruction of deficient bone structure in the jaws.
- Manage head and neck trauma and injuries to the face, jaws, mouth and teeth.
- Diagnosis and management of facial pain.
- Diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer and other diseases in the maxillofacial region.
- Surgical corrective jaw surgery to improve the function and appearance (Prognathic jaws, cleft lip and palate and other congenital defects).
- Perform facial cosmetic procedures to enhance facial appearance and function.
- Diagnosis and surgical management of Temporomandibular Joint disorders (Ankylosis, Subluxation etc)

sciences, exodontia, seminars on basic topics, selection of dissertation topic, library
assignment topic, attending O.T, ward rounds, Medical Record keeping, pre-clinical
exercises, preparation of synopsis and its submission within the six months after
admission to the university as per calendar of events.
